A Modest Mouse cover and a trash-goth banger

I’ve got a couple of new recordings out in the world as of late. The first collaboration was with my good, good, #1 friend, Cassie Wieland—of Vines fame. I worked with her previously on a cover of Kids by MGMT, and that was so much fun that we had to do it again. This time we came together for a cover of The World At Large by Modest Mouse. This track can be found on her debut album, Birthday Party. This was a tricky song to work with because of the nature of Modest Mouse songs in general. They’re very wordy and usually feature really great guitar work, but vocally it’s always about the lyrics and the energy. So, working this into Cassie’s style required a little outside of the box thinking. I ended up using the vocal tracks she sent me and making cool, synthy-sounding samples out of them. The song hits you like a pillow (as intended), and I think we really nailed the vibe. You can purchase the album on Bandcamp and stream it on your usual suspects.

The second recording now available is a piece I wrote for Pathos Trio out of NY. Their trio consists of 2 percussionists and piano. With this album, they were eager to implement electronics alongside their instrumentations, leaning in favor of synths and a darkwave type vibe. Of course, I happily obliged. What came out of the collab was PITY. I really just wanted to write a piece that hits hard from the get-go and never lets up. I don’t get a chance to write pieces like this very often, so it was a total blast, and I love the final product. You can find this piece on their album, Polarity. The record is out now, and you can buy it on Bandcamp.

I should have more music to share before the year is up, so stay tuned! Cheers!
